If you know the Crawfords, you might know that we love food… And you might also know that we absolutely love traditions. So what’s better than a food tradition? Basically nothing. Unless the food tradition is a dessert tradition and then that’s the very best tradition. Every year we make Christmas cutout cookies and this year was no different. Well, two things were different. We have a baby old enough to think it’s fun, and we decided to make the cookies for someone special rather that eating them ourselves.
We pretty much had the very best time ever making these, but there was something even more fun and special about delivering them to our favorite Chick-Fil-A employee. That’s another story for another day, but I want to encourage you to think of someone who could use a little blessing… and go do it.
Now cookies…
As always, these Christmas cutout cookies are gluten free but still entirely delicious. They are also super easy to make, and if you follow the instructions precisely they don’t require any chill time. (This means you need to be prepared to mix, roll, and cut pretty quickly. If you let the dough sit around while doing other things, it will definitely get to warm to cut and you will have to chill it for an hour or so before cutting.)
You absolutely do not have to ice these, but you can. I am not including a recipe for icing because everyone seems to have a very specific taste for icing.
I will say, however, they are best when covered in icing. Because, duh.
These gluten free Christmas cutout cookies will always be a favorite for us and we cannot wait to introduce this tradition to all of our kids, and even their kids in the future.
If you want to store these, just make sure to stack them with parchment paper in between. That will prevent the cookies from sticking to each other or getting messed up.
Also, don’t be afraid to eat ten at once. It’s Christmas, friends.
Enjoy yourselves, enjoy your families, and remember to spread the love with everyone you come in contact with.
Merry Christmas from my family to yours!
